CASE STUDY · OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Two young people who had formed a trusted relationship through their shared interest in outdoor education asked for a further challenge beyond the regular programme. Each young person contributed to the planning, making route cards and spending time in the classroom, shaping their outdoor learning, and practising how to use the correct outdoor gear safely — before successfully completing the Three Peaks Challenge and a two-day wild camping trip in the Glyders, Snowdonia.
In their own words — Young People
“Before I came to Arnfield I really struggled in school and didn’t enjoy learning. The smaller classes and support from staff made a big difference because I finally felt understood and listened to. I liked the outdoor education and residential trips because they helped me build confidence and try things I would never have done before. Since being at Arnfield my attendance and behaviour improved, I achieved qualifications and I feel a lot more positive about my future.”
“Arnfield helped me a lot because the way we learn is different and works better for me. I enjoyed doing ASDAN and practical activities as well as normal lessons because it kept me interested and motivated. The staff always supported me and pushed me to do my best, even when I found things difficult. I feel more confident, more independent and ready to go to college and for adult life.”
